在自家庭院发现，其命名灵感来源于《辛普森一家》中的左撇子角色。Ned是花园蜗牛因螺壳天生向左旋转，与绝大多数右旋蜗牛结构相反，导致其难以正常交配。蜗牛虽为雌雄同体，但繁殖需异体配对，过程中两蜗牛不分雌雄，会互相交换“精子”，各自都能生孩子。为了助兴，期间蜗牛还会射出“恋矢”——一种钙质的管子扎入对方体内。而左旋与右旋蜗牛因身体结构镜像对称，相对应内脏也是反着来的，尤其是生殖器官，显然无法匹配。所以

代仍多为右旋，可见其罕见性。祝愿Ned早日找到“命中注定”的那一只！
